Police Investigate Crash on Highway 149 in Butte County
Butte County, CA (February 9, 2026) – Two people were injured Monday afternoon following a crash on Highway 149, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers responded to the crash around 12:36 p.m. and found one vehicle disabled in the center median with a female driver trapped inside.
A second vehicle involved in the collision sustained significant rear-end damage and came to rest on the right shoulder of the roadway.
Authorities said the crash occurred amid ongoing Caltrans roadway work that had resulted in lane closures and slowed traffic conditions.
One driver reported being stopped for several seconds due to traffic delays when a gold SUV struck the vehicle from behind.
Emergency responders transported the SUV’s driver to a local hospital with major injuries. The other driver reported neck pain following the collision.
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash as officers and Caltrans crews work to clear the scene.
CHP expressed appreciation to CAL FIRE/Butte County and Butte County EMS for their rapid response and assistance.
