Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura County
VENTURA COUNTY, CA (June 12, 2026)— Two bicyclists died and a third suffered injuries in a crash on Pacific Coast Highway after a pickup truck struck them near Solimar Beach Drive on June 11, according to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened at about 7:10 p.m. on northbound Highway 1, also known as Pacific Coast Highway, just north of downtown Ventura and outside city limits.
CHP and Ventura County Fire Department crews arrived and found a crash involving a 2007 gray Nissan Frontier pickup truck and three bicyclists.
Investigators said a 24-year-old Oxnard man was driving the Nissan northbound on PCH at about 50 to 55 mph when the vehicle allegedly veered onto the right shoulder and entered the designated bicycle lane.
Authorities said the Nissan approached the three northbound bicyclists from behind and struck all of them. The pickup then continued northbound, hit a guardrail, and stopped on the shoulder.
Bystanders helped the injured bicyclists before emergency crews arrived.
One bicyclist, identified as a 33-year-old woman from Bend, Oregon, died at the scene. A second bicyclist, identified as a 39-year-old man from Ventura, suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
A third bicyclist, a woman, suffered minor to moderate injuries and was also transported to a hospital.
Officials said they suspect the Nissan driver was under the influence of alcohol. CHP arrested the driver on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury, murder, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Jail records show he was being held at Ventura County jail on $1 million bail, with a Ventura County Superior Court hearing scheduled for June 15.
Authorities closed PCH at Solimar Beach Drive in both directions for about four hours while they investigated the crash and removed the Nissan.
Sweet Lawyers extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased victims. May the bereaved find solace and strength in this extremely trying time.
After a fatal bicycle crash, grieving families and injured survivors deserve answers, support, and compassionate legal guidance.
A crash involving bicyclists can leave families, survivors, and entire communities devastated. When a driver allegedly enters a designated bicycle lane and strikes riders from behind, the consequences can be catastrophic.
The loss of two lives and the injury of another bicyclist on Pacific Coast Highway is a heartbreaking reminder of how vulnerable cyclists are when sharing the road with larger vehicles.
At Sweet Lawyers, we understand that families facing a wrongful death and survivors recovering from serious injuries need more than legal representation. They need compassion, clear communication, and a team that treats their pain with dignity.
No legal action can bring back a loved one, but a wrongful death claim may help families pursue accountability, financial support, and answers after a preventable tragedy.
Fatal bicycle crashes may involve many important questions. Investigators may review driver impairment, speed, lane position, roadway design, visibility, bicycle lane conditions, witness statements, vehicle data, and available video footage.
When DUI is suspected, families may also need help understanding how the criminal investigation and civil claims process may affect their rights.
Sweet Lawyers helps families after fatal bicycle accidents, pedestrian crashes, DUI collisions, and serious injury incidents throughout California.
We also support injured survivors who may face hospital bills, rehabilitation, lost income, pain, emotional trauma, and uncertainty about long-term recovery.
