Police Investigate Bus Crash on Highway 45 in San Miguel County

San Miguel County, CO (January 23, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash on Highway 145 involving what appears to be a school bus blocked both lanes near the top of Lawson Hill late Friday afternoon.

The crash was reported around 5:05 p.m., prompting an emergency response from the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office and Telluride Fire personnel. 

While the exact circumstances leading up to the crash remain unclear, Colorado Department of Transportation camera footage showed a school bus obstructing the roadway.

At this time, the extent of injuries has not been confirmed. 

Authorities have not indicated how many people were involved or whether any students were aboard the bus.

As a safety precaution, the sheriff’s office urged the public to slow down, expect delays, watch for emergency crews, and avoid the area if possible. 

The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
