Police Search Driver After Hit-and-Run Crash at East 30th and Benton Boulevard

KANSAS CITY, MO (May 13, 2026)— A United States Postal Service delivery driver died Wednesday night after a hit-and-run crash at East 30th Street and Benton Boulevard in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Police Department said officers responded to the intersection shortly before 7:20 p.m. after receiving reports of a deadly crash.

According to police, a white USPS Dodge van traveled south on Benton Boulevard and approached East 30th Street. At the same time, a gray Chevrolet Equinox traveled westbound on East 30th Street.

Investigators said the Chevrolet entered the intersection from a stop sign, and the USPS van struck it. The impact caused the postal van to overturn. The USPS worker was partially ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Police said the Chevrolet driver ran from the crash and had not been identified or located as of Thursday evening.

A nearby resident told FOX4 that she saw a young man exit the Chevrolet Equinox after the crash and leave the area carrying a large red duffel bag. She estimated the person appeared to be around 18 to 21 years old.

Neighbors said the postal worker was serving the route as a substitute carrier that day. Community members described him as well-loved and said the fatal crash had deeply affected the neighborhood.

Authorities continue to search for the fleeing driver and investigate the deadly collision.

Sweet Lawyers extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased victim. May the bereaved find solace and strength in this extremely trying time.

Compassionate Legal Support After a Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

Losing a loved one in a sudden crash is devastating. When the driver involved flees the scene, the grief can feel even heavier.

Families may be left with shock, anger, unanswered questions, funeral expenses, insurance concerns, and the painful reality that someone failed to remain and help after a fatal collision.

At Sweet Lawyers, we extend our deepest condolences to families affected by fatal hit-and-run crashes. A wrongful death case involving a working delivery driver, an overturned vehicle, and a fleeing motorist requires careful investigation.

While no legal action can replace a loved one, a wrongful death claim may help surviving family members pursue accountability and financial support for funeral costs, loss of companionship, lost income, emotional suffering, and other damages allowed under the law.

Hit-and-run crashes often require urgent evidence preservation. Important information may include police reports, witness statements, surveillance footage, doorbell camera video, vehicle debris, intersection markings, crash reconstruction findings, medical examiner records, and any available information about the fleeing driver or vehicle.

In cases involving a work vehicle, additional questions may involve employment-related benefits, insurance coverage, and available civil recovery options.

Sweet Lawyers helps grieving families navigate these difficult matters with compassion, professionalism, and respect. Our team can review available evidence, communicate with insurance companies, and explain legal options clearly so families do not have to face the process alone.

We understand that families need more than legal representation—they need steady guidance from people who recognize the emotional weight of their loss.

If your family lost a loved one in a hit-and-run crash, delivery vehicle accident, or fatal intersection collision, contact Sweet Lawyers for a free consultation.

Sweet Lawyers stands with grieving families and helps them seek justice with care, dignity, and determination.
