36-Year-Old man Killed in South Phoenix Hit-and-Run Crash

Phoenix, AZ (May 11, 2025) — 36-year-old Valyn Benally died after a hit-and-run crash late Thursday night in south Phoenix, police said.

Authorities says that the collision happened around 10 p.m. near 7th Street and Elwood Street, just north of Broadway Road.

Officers arrived at the scene and found Benally suffering from severe injuries after a vehicle struck him. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Benally was crossing 7th Street outside of a marked crosswalk when a northbound vehicle hit him. The driver fled before officers arrived and remains unidentified.

Police have not released details about the suspect vehicle. Detectives continue to investigate the fatal collision.
