Suspected Impaired Driver Crashes Into Phoenix City Vehicle, Injures Police Assistant
Phoenix, AZ (July 13, 2026) — A Phoenix police assistant suffered minor injuries after a frightening collision on 67th Avenue, when a suspected impaired driver crashed into a City of Phoenix vehicle late Friday night in the Maryvale neighborhood.
The collision happened around 10:30 p.m. near 67th Avenue and McDowell Road, where the police assistant was directing traffic following an earlier crash. The assistant was inside a city vehicle with its emergency lights activated when another vehicle struck it.
Officers determined the driver displayed signs of impairment and took the individual into custody. As a precaution, emergency responders transported the police assistant to a nearby hospital. Authorities said the injuries were not considered serious.
