Two Carmel Residents Seriously Injured in Highway 1 Multi-Vehicle Crash

Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA (April 11, 2026) — Two Carmel residents sustained major injuries following a three-vehicle collision on Highway 1 south of Carpenter Street in Carmel-by-the-Sea,

According to the California Highway Patrol, that a 96-year-old Carmel man drove a Lexus sedan southbound behind a Subaru driven by a 24-year-old Oakland woman. At the same time, a 78-year-old Carmel woman traveled northbound in a Honda SUV.

Authorities said the Lexus crossed the double yellow lines for reasons still under investigation and struck the northbound Honda SUV. The impact forced the Lexus back into the southbound lane, where it then collided with the Subaru.

Emergency responders transported the Lexus driver and the Honda driver to a nearby hospital with suspected major injuries. The Subaru driver was not hurt in the crash.

CHP confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have contributed to the collision. Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
