Fiery Multi-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down I-15 South in San Diego
San Diego, CA (June 29, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 15 South in San Diego Saturday night caused a vehicle to erupt in flames and forced authorities to close all lanes to traffic.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the crash around 9:45 p.m., just north of the 163 interchange.
Caltrans reported all lanes blocked shortly after 10 p.m. According to CHP, at least four vehicles were involved after one vehicle rear-ended another traveling with its hazards on at approximately 50 mph. The impact sent one of the vehicles into a highway divider wall, igniting a fire.
Emergency personnel transported at least one person to the hospital. Caltrans began reopening some lanes of I-15 South around 11:15 p.m., and all lanes have since reopened.
Let’s Drive Safer Together
High-speed crashes can occur in the blink of an eye, but so many are preventable with small, intelligent decisions. Pay attention, don’t get distracted (say, by texting) and never drive after drinking. As ever – obey speed limits, buckle up and keep plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles. These are small enough measures to save lives — including your own.
We can all take steps to help keep our roads safe for ourselves, our families and our communities.
Always maintain a safe following distance and stay alert on the road. Even a small error can lead to a serious collision. Drive defensively and arrive safely.
Steps to Take When You’ve Been in a Car Accident
If you get into a traffic accident, it can be a frightening situation and many people do not know what to do afterwards, which may have a big impact on your safety as well as your rights.
First, assess yourself and others for injuries. If anyone is hurt, call 911 immediately. If you can move your vehicle, do so in a safe location, and put on your hazard lights to warn other drivers. Exchange details with the other driver such as names, numbers, insurance company information, and license plate numbers. (And if there are witnesses nearby, try to get their information, too.)
Photograph the scene, damage to the vehicles and any injuries. If the damage appears to be minor, document everything anyway.
Then get medical care — even if you feel fine. Some injuries can have a delayed presentation. Lastly, reach out to a seasoned personal injury lawyer, such as the Sweet Lawyers. They’ll explain your legal rights and navigate the insurance claims process, so you can focus on what’s most important.
Those minutes after a crash are critical. Staying calm, acting swiftly and figuring out what kind of aid is available could help protect your health, your finances and your future.
