Edison, CA (September 30, 2026) — On Monday morning, Veronica Espinoza Roa was among four people who died after a fiery head-on collision on Highway 58 near Edison Road in Kern County.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash at approximately 10:27 a.m. on westbound Highway 58, east of Edison Road. Investigators determined that a 2025 Hyundai Tucson traveling eastbound crossed the center divider and struck a 2020 Toyota Corolla traveling westbound head-on.

The Corolla carried a driver and two passengers. The Hyundai driver and all three occupants of the Toyota became trapped when both vehicles caught fire. All four suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified one of the victims as 53-year-old Veronica Espinoza Roa of Oakdale. Authorities have not yet determined why the Hyundai crossed the center divider, and investigators were still examining whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
