10-Year-Old Girl Suffers Critical Injuries After Commerce City Pedestrian Crash
Commerce City, CO (August 7, 2026) — 10-year-old Violet Middleton remains in critical condition after a vehicle struck her in Commerce City, Colorado, on Wednesday.
Authorities identified the child as Violet Middleton; reports say that she was walking to visit a friend when the crash happened in the 6300 block of Holly Street.
Authorities say that Middleton suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors placed her in a medically induced coma. Medical teams also performed emergency surgery to relieve pressure caused by brain swelling and bleeding.
Middleton was scheduled to begin sixth grade the following day, but she now faces a long road to recovery. Family members said she is currently in stable condition, though her injuries remain life-threatening.
Commerce City police continue to investigate the collision and have not determined who was at fault. Authorities have released few details about how the crash happened.
As Middleton’s family focuses on her recovery, they have also launched a fundraiser to help cover mounting medical expenses.
Stop Pedestrian Accidents
To help prevent pedestrian accidents, drivers and pedestrians alike should be increasingly vigilant and watch out for each other. Drivers have to make sure to slow down in crowded areas, watch for people crossing, and not get distracted, like by texting.
Pedestrians should cross only where they are supposed to, heed the traffic lights, and attempt to establish eye contact with drivers before they step off the curb. If you’re walking at night, wear something bright or reflective, so you’re easier to see. Do not walk and use a phone, or wear headphones, on the road.
Pedestrian crashes can happen in an instant and often have life-changing consequences. Drivers should stay alert, especially in residential neighborhoods, while pedestrians should use designated crossings and remain aware of traffic. A few extra moments of caution can help prevent devastating tragedies.
