VPD Officer Dale Rush Hospitalized in Car Crash on Highway 198

Visalia, CA (August 3, 2020) – On Monday morning, VPD Officer Dale Rush sustained injuries in an accident during a traffic stop on Highway 198.

The incident happened at 7:55 a.m., on August 3. VPD patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle pulling a trailer at SR-198 at the Ben Maddox off-ramp following an investigation.

While the officers were on the traffic stop, a driver traveling westbound SR-198 in the number one lane was unable to stop for slow-moving traffic, and lost control of his vehicle.

The vehicle hit the guard rail and careened back across both westbound lanes.

The front of the vehicle then collided with the trailer and the trailer struck VPD officer Rush, resulting in moderate injuries. He was immediately transported to a local hospital and is now in stable condition.
