Wenser Carrero and Hugo Valderrana-Quintera Dies in Head-On Crash on Highway 249 [Grimes County, TX]

Grimes County, TX (November 16, 2025) — On Saturday morning, 31-year-old Wenser Carrero of Pasco, WA, and Hugo Valderrana-Quintera of Spring, TX — died at the scene of a wrong-way collision on Highway 249.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the deadly crash happened after a westbound Ford SUV suddenly crossed into the eastbound lanes for unknown reasons and crashed head-on into a Toyota SUV. Moments later, a westbound Honda sedan struck the Ford, causing a secondary impact.

The drivers of both SUVs — Carrero, and Valderrana-Quintera, were pronounced dead at the scene. Passengers inside the Toyota suffered injuries; one was taken to a hospital by ambulance, while others sought medical care on their own. The total number of injured occupants remains unclear.

Authorities continue to investigate what caused the Ford driver to veer into oncoming traffic. Highway 249 reopened around 9 a.m.
