Two Harris County Deputies Injured in Suspected DWI Crash on Sam Houston Toll Road
Houston, TX (August 28, 2025) Early Thursday, 32-year-old Wilfredo Chaves Arzola was arrested after a horrific crash on the Sam Houston Toll Road near Ella.
According to authorities, two Harris County Precinct 4 deputies sustained injuries after a suspected drunk driver crashed into their vehicles.
Authorities reported that the deputies were responding to an incident when Arzola struck their patrol units. Emergency crews airlifted one deputy to the hospital while the other was transported by ambulance.
The deputies, a man and a woman, suffered leg, hip, and head injuries. The female deputy, with more than two years of service, was released from the hospital later in the day. The male deputy, a four-year veteran, underwent surgery and is now stable, though facing a long recovery.
Investigators arrested Arzola, charging him with intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury to a peace officer and reckless aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer. He remains in Harris County Jail as bond and court details are pending.
Traffic on the toll road reopened after several hours of closure.
Be a Responsible Driver
Be a defensive driver to prevent road accidents. Stay alert, maintain a safe distance, and always expect the unexpected. Avoid distractions, obey speed limits, and use your signals. Watch for pedestrians and cyclists. A proactive, cautious approach keeps everyone safer on the road. Drive smart, drive safe!
Drunk driving puts lives at risk. If you plan to drink, always arrange a safe ride. Never drive under the influence.
A Personal Injury Claim Could Help
A personal injury case is critical after a car accident, especially when there is an injured party caused by another driver’s carelessness. Automobile accidents can lead to painful physical injuries, emotional distress and financial ruin. Medical expenses, lost income, and expenses for long term recovery don’t take long to add up. One option for reaching a fair resolution to these damages is a personal injury lawsuit.
Filing a court action holds the wrongdoer accountable. It also forces insurance providers to offer a reasonable settlement, rather than a low-ball offer that may not be enough to cover all of your losses. In too many instances, the insurers who shouldn’t be in the business of trying to maximize their profits often look for ways to minimize their payouts. And your rights will be protected with the personal injury claim throughout this process.
Also, in a personal injury lawsuit, you may be able to recover noneconomic damages such as pain and suffering or loss of enjoyment of life. It’s often no less important than your medical bills. In suing, you also encourage safer driving by reinforcing the accountability of reckless or negligent drivers.
If you do retain an experienced personal injury lawyer, the case is likely to proceed much more smoothly and not only will you be led through the legal process, you will likely have a better chance of a positive outcome as well.
