Police Investigate Crash at Francis Beach in Half Moon Bay

HALF MOON BAY, CA (June 26, 2026)— A 20-year-old woman suffered injuries in a crash at Francis Beach on Wednesday afternoon after a lifeguard truck ran over her in Half Moon Bay.

According to State Parks officials, the woman was lying on the sand when a lifeguard driving a pickup truck struck her.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said emergency responders transported the woman to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said the lifeguard driving the truck may have been distracted at the time of the incident.

ABC7 Eyewitness News in San Francisco reported that tire tracks remained visible in the sand Thursday morning. Witnesses described seeing emergency personnel rush to help the injured woman.

“Me and my cousins, we saw cops running over to the beach,” said Elena Inzunza of Auburn, who was camping with her family. “So we went to check it out, and a girl was buried under the sand.”

“That’s really sad,” said Tania Jess of Half Moon Bay. “I mean, I’ve never heard of that before, so that’s really sad for both. So I hope that person in the sand is okay.”

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Legal Support After Beach Vehicle and Pedestrian Injuries

Being injured while relaxing at the beach is frightening and unexpected. A person lying on the sand should not have to fear being struck by a vehicle, especially one operated in a public recreation area.

Sweet Lawyers sends sincere support to the young woman injured at Francis Beach and hopes she makes a full and steady recovery.

Incidents involving beach patrol vehicles, lifeguard trucks, maintenance vehicles, or government-operated vehicles can raise serious questions.

Investigators may need to determine whether the driver was distracted, whether the vehicle should have been operating in that area, whether proper lookout procedures were followed, and whether beachgoers were adequately protected from vehicle traffic.

Tire tracks, witness statements, incident reports, photos, medical records, and surveillance or body camera footage may all become important evidence.

Even when injuries are initially described as non-life-threatening, victims should take their recovery seriously.

A vehicle running over a pedestrian can cause bruising, fractures, soft tissue injuries, nerve damage, internal trauma, back and neck injuries, anxiety, and lingering pain.

Some symptoms may appear or worsen after the shock of the incident fades. Prompt medical care and complete documentation can help protect both health and any potential injury claim.

Claims involving public agencies, parks departments, or government employees may involve strict deadlines and special procedures.

Missing those deadlines can affect a victim’s ability to pursue compensation. For that reason, injured people should act quickly to understand their rights and preserve evidence.

Sweet Lawyers has decades of experience helping injured victims after pedestrian accidents, public-area injuries, and serious personal injury incidents.

Our team provides compassionate guidance, handles insurance communications, reviews available evidence, and helps clients pursue fair compensation when negligence causes harm.
