Police Investigate Crash  on Cathedral Oaks Road in Goleta

GOLETA, CA (June 8, 2026) — A woman suffered major injuries Monday in a crash on Cathedral Oaks Road after another vehicle struck her while she was checking on her car following a collision with a deer.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, first responders were dispatched around 11:39 a.m. to Cathedral Oaks Road between Los Carneros Road and Storke Road for a reported single-vehicle crash involving a deer.

Fire officials said the vehicle struck and killed the deer. The two people inside the vehicle were not injured in the initial collision.

While emergency crews were on their way, both occupants got out of the damaged vehicle. A female occupant walked to the front of the vehicle to check on the deer and assess the damage.

At that point, a second vehicle rear-ended the damaged car, pushing it forward and striking the woman, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The woman sustained major injuries. Emergency responders transported her by ambulance to Cottage Hospital for further treatment.

Officials said no other injuries were reported.

Authorities have not released the injured woman’s identity.

The incident remains under investigation.

Injured in a Goleta Crash After a Roadside Emergency? Sweet Lawyers Can Help

A roadside emergency can become dangerous in an instant. After a crash involving an animal, many drivers and passengers instinctively exit their vehicle to check for damage, call for help, or assess the situation.

Sadly, when another vehicle rear-ends the disabled car, anyone standing nearby may suffer serious or life-changing injuries.

At Sweet Lawyers, we understand how traumatic this kind of crash can be. A victim may go from surviving the initial collision unharmed to suffering major injuries moments later.

Families may suddenly face ambulance transport, hospitalization, surgeries, follow-up care, lost income, emotional distress, and difficult insurance questions.

Crashes involving disabled vehicles and roadside hazards require careful investigation.

Important questions may include whether the damaged vehicle had hazard lights on, where the occupants stood, how fast the second vehicle was traveling, whether the second driver was distracted, whether visibility was limited, and whether roadway conditions played a role.

Evidence may include fire department reports, police reports, crash scene photos, vehicle damage, witness statements, medical records, roadway markings, surveillance footage, and any available dash camera video.

Insurance companies may try to minimize injuries or shift blame after a complex crash. A personal injury claim may help injured victims pursue compensation for medical expenses, future medical care, rehabilitation, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other crash-related losses.

Sweet Lawyers helps injured victims protect their rights with compassion, professionalism, and care.

Our team can review available evidence, communicate with insurance companies, and explain legal options clearly so victims and families can focus on healing.

If you or someone you love suffered injuries in a roadside crash, rear-end collision, or pedestrian-related accident, contact Sweet Lawyers for a free consultation.
