1 Dead in Oakland Auto Accident on 880 Freeway and Hegenberger Road

OAKLAND, CA (August 24, 2025) – Saturday morning, a woman died in a brutal semi-truck crash on 880 Freeway and Hegenberger Road.

The incident happened just before 3:45 a.m. on the southbound side of the 880 Freeway just north of Hegenberger Road, near the Oakland Coliseum.

CHP said a crash involving a Honda Fit and a Freightliner Cascadia left the Honda disabled in the second southbound lane of I-880.

The 24-year-old woman driving the Honda was gravely injured and later died despite aid from officers and medical responders. Her name is being withheld pending family notification.

The big rig driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. CHP ruled out DUI for the truck driver, but has not determined if drugs or alcohol were involved for the Honda driver.

All southbound lanes were closed from 4 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. during the investigation.
