Police Investigate Crash on the Capital City Freeway in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, CA (September 9, 2026)– A woman died, and two others suffered serious injuries in a crash on the Capital City Freeway near Watt Avenue Wednesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said the crash happened at approximately 4:16 p.m.

According to authorities, the vehicle traveled off the freeway for reasons that remain unknown before crashing into a tree.

Three women inside the vehicle suffered serious injuries. Emergency responders transported all three to a local hospital for treatment.

The woman driving the vehicle later died from her injuries at the hospital.

Authorities have not released the identities of the women involved or additional information about the conditions of the two surviving passengers.
