Driver Faces Felony Charges After Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on Colorado Highway 1 near Fort Collins

Fort Collins, Co (July 3, 2025) – Authorities have charged a 23-year-old man with multiple felonies after a deadly hit-and-run crash on Colorado Highway 1 that killed a 20-year-old woman.

The collision occurred on June 27 at the intersection of Colorado Highway 1 and Douglas Road

According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), Uriel Ordaz-Rodriguez, a resident of Wellington, was driving a red Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Highway 1 when he struck a gold Toyota Corolla

The woman driving the Corolla was making a left turn from westbound Douglas Road onto southbound Highway 1.

CSP investigators reported that Ordaz-Rodriguez’s pickup veered out of its lane to the left, hitting the driver’s side of the Corolla.

The impact caused the pickup to roll several times before coming to rest on its passenger side off the road. The Corolla spun and was pushed northbound from the force of the collision.

First responders arrived quickly and transported the injured woman to the hospital, but she later died from her injuries.

Reports indicate that Ordaz-Rodriguez fled the scene and failed to notify authorities.

CSP arrested him more than 24 hours later, and Larimer County Jail booking records show he was taken into custody at 10:40 p.m. on June 28

His bond was set at $75,000 during a hearing on June 30, and he remains in custody as of July 3. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 11.

Ordaz-Rodriguez faces several charges, including vehicular homicide-reckless driving (Class 4 felony), leaving the scene of an accident involving death (Class 3 felony), and multiple traffic violations such as failing to report the crash and driving without a valid license.
