Manuel Diaz-Chi Arrested in DUI Crash on 10th and Folsom Streets in San Francisco

San Francisco, CA (May 30, 2025) – A woman died in a DUI auto-pedestrian crash on 10th and Folsom Streets.

Prosecutors announced that a driver now faces multiple charges—including vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence—after a deadly crash earlier this week in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, authorities arraigned 28-year-old Manuel Diaz-Chi on Thursday for his role in the fatal collision that occurred near the intersection of 10th and Folsom streets early Tuesday morning.

Officials charged Diaz-Chi with vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury.

Prosecutors also accused him of driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.15% or higher and of causing great bodily harm to the victim.

Investigators say Diaz-Chi drove a Mazda van on 10th Street shortly after 5 a.m., after reportedly drinking throughout the night and into the morning.

Upon approaching the intersection at 10th and Folsom, Diaz-Chi allegedly followed several vehicles too closely before swerving around them and striking a woman in the crosswalk.

The collision dragged the woman for an entire block before police located her pinned underneath Diaz-Chi’s van.

Medics transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Officers reported that Diaz-Chi showed clear signs of intoxication at the scene. Inside his vehicle, they discovered beer bottles.

Although he declined to take field sobriety tests, he agreed to a breath test at 8 a.m., which revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.16%—more than double the legal limit.

During Thursday’s court appearance, prosecutors requested that Diaz-Chi remain in custody until trial. The judge set his bail at $80,000, and he remains in custody. Authorities scheduled his next court appearance—a bail review hearing—for Tuesday.
