Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Interstate 29 in Clay County

Clay County, MO (October 4, 2025) – A tragic multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 involving a wrong-way driver claimed the life of a 21-year-old woman Saturday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred south of the Route 169 junction. Authorities say a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-29 collided head-on with another vehicle. 

The impact triggered a four-car collision, leading to significant damage and multiple injuries.

A 21-year-old female passenger from Kansas City, Kansas, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been publicly released pending family notification. 

Two additional individuals sustained serious injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.

Northbound traffic was significantly delayed as first responders and investigators worked to clear the wreckage and assess the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
