CHP Investigates Vehicle VS Pedestrian Crash on Highway 101

Orick, CA (August 20, 2025) – A worker sustained injuries in a reported crash on Highway 101.

Emergency crews responded early this afternoon to an incident initially reported as a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision on Highway 101 near mile marker 127, just north of Orick. 

However, officials later clarified that a worker became pinned by a trailer during a loading operation.

According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page, the call came in at approximately 12:54 p.m. 

While early reports suggested the incident might have involved the worker’s own vehicle, updated details confirmed that the individual was loading a transfer trailer when a brake failure caused the trailer tongue to pin them against a truck.

City Ambulance, Orick Fire, and Cal Fire responded to the scene. Scanner traffic indicated that emergency responders treated the worker for a leg injury. 

By 1:18 p.m., the injured person was likely already en route to the hospital, and by 1:28 p.m., medical units cancelled incoming support, suggesting that the transport was complete.

Authorities have not yet released an update on the worker’s condition.
