Wrong-Way Collision on Interstate 64 Kills 2 People

Two Killed, One Critically Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on I-64 in St. Louis

St. Louis, MO (July 29, 2026) — A wrong-way collision on Interstate 64 near downtown St. Louis early Monday claimed the lives of two drivers and left a passenger critically injured.

According to investigators, the collision happened around midnight in the westbound lanes of I-64 near the Jefferson Avenue overpass. Authorities determined that one of the vehicles entered the interstate in the wrong direction from Forest Park Parkway before the crash.

Both drivers suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. A 23-year-old passenger in the wrong-way vehicle sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The impact sparked a large fire, prompting the temporary closure of the interstate. Crews reopened the roadway shortly after 3 a.m.

Investigators have not determined why the vehicle was traveling the wrong way on the interstate. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate the fatal collision.
