1 Person Hurt in Tempe Auto Accident on Rio Salado Parkway

TEMPE, AZ (July 2, 2025) – Saturday night, an alarming wrong-way crash on Rio Salado Parkway injured one person.

The incident started when a trooper spotted a wrong-way driver coming straight toward him in the opposite direction. Then, the two vehicles collided head-on when the trooper swerved to block the vehicle after the suspect vehicle veered into the right lane to pass.

Moreover, responders transported the trooper to a hospital with minor injuries. Then, officers arrested the wrong-way driver for aggravated DUI, endangerment, criminal damage, and reckless driving.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified. 

Due to limited information, the Arizona Department of Public Safety continued investigating the crash.
