Wrong-Way Crash Near Caldwell Leaves One Dead, One Injured

Caldwell, TX (September 30, 2025) — Early Monday morning, a wrong-way crash on State Highway 36 near Caldwell claimed one life and left another person injured.

Authorities say a 2020 Kia was heading north in the southbound lanes when it collided head-on with an 18-wheeler around 3 a.m. The impact caused the Kia to burst into flames, killing the driver, who has not yet been formally identified due to the severity of the fire.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The highway was shut down for several hours as investigators worked at the scene.
