Police Investigate Crash on Interstate 25 in Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO (May 20, 2026)— A wrong-way driver caused a head-on crash on Interstate 25 early Wednesday morning near Plum Creek Road.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash happened around 5:12 a.m. near milepost 179 and involved a Chevrolet pickup truck and a silver Toyota sedan.

Investigators said the Chevrolet was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-25 when it collided head-on with the Toyota.

Emergency responders transported the Chevrolet driver to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. Medical personnel evaluated the Toyota driver at the scene, but that driver declined hospital transport.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and blocked the southbound lanes of the interstate after the crash.

Authorities closed southbound I-25 for an extended period while investigators examined the scene and crews worked to remove the damaged vehicles.

The Colorado State Patrol is leading the investigation.

Motorists were advised to use alternate routes while the closure remained in place.
