Yuta Sasagawa Dies in Pedestrian Crash on Madrona Avenue [Torrance, CA]

Torrance, CA (August 27, 2026) — Authorities identified 27-year-old Yuta Sasagawa, who died after a vehicle struck him Monday night in Torrance.

The crash happened around 8:40 p.m. at Madrona Avenue and Garnet Street, south of Del Amo Boulevard, according to Torrance police.

Investigators said Sasagawa was crossing Madrona Avenue when a northbound vehicle struck him. Southbound traffic had stopped to let him cross, but the northbound driver continued through the area.

Torrance firefighters pronounced Sasagawa dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that he suffered blunt traumatic injuries.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police determined that alcohol did not contribute to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
