DUI Crash in Alto Kills Austin Woman, Samuel Lee Schlemmer Arrested
Alto, TX (May 27, 2025) – 54-year-old Yvette Nicole McVey of Austin was killed after a frightening DUI crash on US 69.
According to authorities, the deadly crash happened around 10:55 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 69 and FM 1911.
Authorities arrested 21-year-old Samuel Lee Schlemmer of Alto for causing the fatal crash while allegedly driving under the influence.
Reports say that Schlemmer ran a stop sign, crashed into a vehicle carrying three people.
Officials say that the collision claimed the life of McVey, while another passenger, Alesia Annette Sidney of Lufkin, remains hospitalized, while the driver, Kevin McGary, received treatment and was released.
Officers booked Schlemmer into the Cherokee County Jail on multiple charges, including intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault, with a total bond set at $355,000.
