Pedestrian Killed, Another Injured in San Francisco Chinatown Crash; Driver Arrested

San Francisco, CA (April 18, 2026) — A pedestrian died and another was hurt after a tragic crash on Grand Avenue. Authorities have arrested Zhuo Ming Lu, the driver involved.

The crash happened around 7:43 a.m. near Grand Avenue and Jackson Street. Investigators said a 76-year-old driver attempted to park when the vehicle suddenly mounted the sidewalk, hitting two pedestrians before slamming into the New Lung Ting Cafe, also known as Pork Chop House.

Emergency responders transported both victims to the hospital. One later died from their injuries, while the other sustained non-life-threatening harm. The victim who died had been delivering a carpet at the time, while the second victim was simply walking along the sidewalk.

Police identified the driver as Lu. Officers arrested him on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and unsafe speed after determining there was probable cause. Authorities confirmed he remained at the scene following the crash.

The incident also caused damage to the restaurant building. Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the collision and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
